In its first season playing collegiate basketball, Portland Bible College won the Association of Christian College Athletics Division 2 National Championship with a 69-64 victory over Canadian Mennonite University (Winnipeg, Manitoba) in Oklahoma City, Okla. on March 8.
PBC (12-17) opened the ACCA tournament with a 68-62 win over Emmaus Bible College (Dubuque, Iowa). The Wildcats knocked off Free Will Baptist Bible College (Nashville, Tenn.) 72-59 in the second round before facing Canadian Mennonite in the title game.
PBC is coached by Eivind Schweiss, who assembled the team with six freshman, two sophomores and one junior. With the return of his entire team and an exciting recruiting class, Coach Schweiss expects to have a great second season.
"One of our main goals for having a basketball program at PBC is to help develop Christian character in our young men so they can influence the world for the cause of Christ. I am very impressed and proud of my guys the way they conducted themselves on and off the court. They have laid the foundation for what it takes to build a great collegiate program".
